The Foreign Language High School Affiliated to Shanghai Normal University (SHNU) welcomed a Sino-German Education Ambassador, Ms. Sara Karolak from Havelland High School, Germany on October 22-25. Ms. Karolak visited classrooms and local cultural sites, and had in-depth exchanges with the faculty at the SHNU Foreign Language High School.
A German teacher from SHNU Foreign Language High School was invited to attend a seminar in Beijing on October 19, which was organized by the Goethe Institute and the Mercator Foundation. Representatives from both schools received training and had exchanges on October 19-21 and October 26-28. The series of exchange activities were culminated by the visit of Ms. Sara Karolak, Principal of Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Havelland High School to the SHNU Foreign Language High School. Mr. Xiao Ming, Principal of the SHNU Foreign Language High School extended a cordial welcome to Ms. Karolak. The two principals reached consensus in areas such as inter-school exchanges and educational thoughts. Ms. Karolak then visited the Exhibition Room of the Copernicus-Hugo Academy on campus and the School History Museum in the company of Foreign Affairs staff. The scenic campus and the education idea stressing truth and innovation left a deep impression on the visitor.
During her four-day visit, Ms. Karolak attended an array of classes, such as Speaking class by foreign teachers, Taekwondo class, English and German classes, as well as Geography Explorative class, BIT-maker Training Camp. Ms. Karolak spoke highly of the flexible teaching methods as well as the educational idea stressing independent learning and innovation. Moreover, she was fascinated by traditional culture classes encompassing calligraphy, Chinese painting and traditional Chinese music. Ms. Karolak concluded her visit with a lively lecture on German culture to the German classes in Senior Grade 2.
During her visit at the SHNU Foreign Language High School, Ms. Karolak not only experienced a variety of classes, but also had profound communication with teachers and students. With deepened mutual understanding of education in China and Germany, the two schools reached a consensus on the establishment of a partnership, which will lay a solid foundation for long-term friendship and cooperation between the schools.
